For writing the short story

It is very easy to write a bad short story. Although short stories require a different technique from novels, I'll realize that those early failures were a necessary apprenticeship. It was through years of writing and rewriting - struggling to express myself clearly, to work out my plots, to bring the characters to life - that we have to learn the skills. None of our writing is wasted. There will be days when I feel that I haven't produced a single sentence to my satisfaction, but I all have those days and they are necessary to our development. Eventually I'll discover the form of writing I am best at - long or short, fiction or non-fiction, for children or for adults - bu tuntil I find that out, all my writing is valuable experience. Keep it anything.
