이를 원작으로 하는 영화 속 장면이 떠오른다. 

뉴멕시코주 사막 한가운데에 질서 정연하게 세워져 있는 

대형 전파 망원경 사이에서 외계에서 오는 전파를 탐지하고 있던 Ellie.

클로즈업 된 Ellie의 모습 뒤로 

그 많은 전파 망원경이 끝도 없이 펼쳐저 보이는 광경.

그 모습을 some strange species of mechanical flower로 표현한 

Carl의 필력이란... 

과학자도 나름대로 인문학적 소양을 발휘할 수 있다걸 보여준다랄까?
